RSPB WILDLIFE ACTION AWARD

The Nursery Unit are delighted to receive a  'GOLD' Wildlife action award.

Throughout the year, the children have been feeding birds, planting seeds, re-cycling food waste and making compost.

They have tasted the first strawberries from the garden and made homes for mini beasts.

We have watched butterflies and bees visit our colourful plants and flowers.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls on this wonderful achievement.

You can view the announcement on the following link-https://www.facebook.com/RSPBWildlifeActionAwards

Here are the children from both groups with their gold award certificates.

June Rainbow News

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Juneedition of Rainbow News.

This is the last edition of Rainbow News. It will soon be time for your child to move on to Primary one.

We wish all our children good luck in their new setting and hope all the boys and girls will be happy in their new schools.

Before leaving, you will be invited to a final parental meeting to discuss your child’s progress and to give you a written report.

The children enjoyed the ‘mini-beast’ theme last month. We went into the garden for our search.

We found lots of little creatures hiding in dark places and put them in the bug boxes.

We found fast ones, slow ones, long ones, slimy ones. We looked closely at snails and worms.

We remembered to put them back again where we found them.

We made mini-beasts out of clay.

Our Trip to Castlewellan Forest Park last month was enjoyed by all.

Our Guides took us to the bluebell woods, we heard baby chicks in a tree top and we fed the ducks.

We found lots of colours all around us. Here are some photographs of our experiences.

During the month of Junewe have a ‘Holiday’theme.

We are creating a Travel Agency where the children can plan their destination and choose ways to travel.

We are also going to find out about the sea and what lives in the ocean. We are planning a boat trip on a ferry to Portaferry to visit EXPLORIS.

Story of the month is Fidgety Fish.

Five little fishies

Five little fishies swimming in a pool -(wiggle five fingers)The first one said, ”the pool is cool” (show one finger then wrap arms around body)

The second one said, “the pool is deep”(show two fingers then measure deep)

The third one said, “I want to sleep”(show three fingers then rest head on hands)

The fourth one said, “Let’s take a dip” (show four fingers then hands ‘dive’ into water)

The fifth one said, “I spy a ship” (show five fingers and touch forehead with hand.)

Fisher boat comes-(form ‘V’ with fingers, then move hands away from body)

Line goes “kersplash!”-(pretend to throw fishing line)

Away the five little fishies dash.-(wiggle five fingers away)

A sailor went to sea,sea,sea,

A sailor went to sea,sea,sea,

To see what he could see, see, see.

But all that he could see, see, see,

Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea!

(use as a clapping song-slap knees to start, then clap hands and keep the beat or find a partner and slap and clap hands as rhyme is repeated)

  My big blue boat

Ilove to sail in my big blue boat, my big blue boat, my big blue boat.

I love to sail in my big blue boat, out in the deep blue sea

My big blue boat has two red sails, two red sails, two red sails

My big blue boat has two red sails, out in the deep blue sea.

So come for a ride in my big blue boat, my big blue boat, my big blue boat,

Come for a ride in my big blue boat, out in the deep blue sea.

Pirate song

When I was one, I ate a bun the day I went to sea.

I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me;

Chorus-We’re going this way, that way, forwards and backwards over the Irish Sea.

A bottle of rum to fill my tum and that’s the life for me!

When I was two, I buckled my shoe the day I went to sea.

I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me-

Chorus

When I was three, I bumped my knee the day I went to sea.

I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me-

Chorus

When I was four, I fell on the floor the day I went to sea

I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me-

Chorus

When I was five, I learned to jive the day I went to sea.

I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me-

                       Chorus

Bubbles over the ocean

My bubbles flew over the ocean.

My bubbles flew over the sea.

My bubbles flew over the rainbow,

Oh come back my bubbles to me.

Come back, come back, oh come back my bubbles to me x2

 Rainbow song

Red and yellow and pink and green,

Orange and purple and blue.

I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too.

Listen with your eyes, Listen with your eyes,

And sing everything you see.

You can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow,

sing along with me.

Red and yellow and pink and green,

Orange and purple and blue.

Now you can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too.

Put a hat on your head

Put a hat on your head, sun cream on your face.

Play under a tree, that’s the safest place.

When you’re playing outside and you’re having fun,

Stay under the shade and keep out of the sun.
