Summer Assessments

Summer tests will take place over three weeks beginning on Monday, 13th May 2019. Please ensure that your child is in school over these weeks to complete their assessments.

Sacramental Celebrations

Primary 7 preparations for Confirmation are now well underway. We look forward to the Service of Light which takes place on Thursday, 2nd May at 7.00pm and the Confirmation ceremony on Wednesday, 15th May in St Patrick’s Church at 6.00pm.

We keep our P7 boys and girls in our prayers as they approach this special day and wish every blessing on them.

Congratulations to our P4 boys and girls who made their First Communion on 7th April. The children worked extremely hard to prepare for their special occasion and it was lovely to see the respect and reverence they showed during the ceremony. Our thanks are extended to Miss Delaney, Mr Smyth, Mrs Kilmartin, Mrs McGreevy and Miss McCartan for all they did to make this occasion so meaningful to the children. We hope that this will be the first of many times that the children will experience this very important sacrament.

A big thank you must also go to our Parent Support Group and parents of P3 children who gave up their time to prepare the Parish Centre and provide refreshments to the families of our P4 children.

Trocaire 2019

It was great to see the children working so hard to raise much needed funds for Trocaire over Lent.   We thank our parents for supporting the children in their fundraising efforts and ask that you always encourage them to think of others who are less fortunate than us. Sincere thanks to everyone who made our Lenten charity work such a huge success. Together we raised £961.70 for Trocaire.

Your views are important!

Just before the Easter break a letter was circulated to parents asking them to take a few minutes to complete our Parent Questionnaire. Please be reminded that the closing date for submissions is 8th May. The questionnaire can be accessed by clicking on the link:

Residential Trip to Greenhill YMCA

The excitement is mounting as 20th May approaches and our P6 and P7 pupils embark on their three-day residential trip to Greenhill YMCA, Newcastle. Parents/Guardians are reminded that fully payment of £140 should be paid by Friday, 17th May.

Shared Education

This year, despite significant reductions in the levels of funding available for Shared Education, we have continued to provide opportunities for all of our classes to be involved in our Shared Education link with Ballynahinch PS. In addition to the learning links that have taken place, our joint choir for the Cross Community Carol Service and our joint School Council meetings have been a huge success. As a result, our joint council have developed a new Shared Education logo and motto. We are also delighted to see the wonderful learning opportunities being provided as a result of programme.

Our teachers are also benefitting greatly as Shared Education has allowed them to access training, develop links and share teaching ideas and activities with their colleagues in Ballynahinch PS.

Fruit and Vegetables - Safety Advice

Parents are reminded that, in order to prevent a risk of choking, the Public Health Agency recommend that all fruits and vegetables provided to P1 and nursery school children for break and/or lunch should be sliced or chopped. Parents are asked to follow this guidance when providing a break time snack and packed lunch.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that the school water bottles are used to bring water into School. Alternatives are not acceptable as they are not approved by the Dental Service. School water bottles were provided free of charge to all pupils at the beginning of the school year. Replacement bottles are available for £1 and lids for 10p.

Emotional Intelligence

This month the children will focus on Our Lady and Friendship Why not take a little time to talk to your child about what they are learning.

The P1 class will perform the class assembly on the emotional intelligence themes on 31st May 2019 at 9.30am. Parents are very welcome to attend. Please come along for refreshments and a chat from 9.00am.

May – The month of Our Lady

In May we remember Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the sacrifices she made in her life. As our Mother, we pray to her asking us to watch over us and guide as in our journey through life. In school we are also promoting the Rosary and will provide everyone with a Prayer to Our Lady and Miraculous medal.

Perhaps parents could take a few moments each day to talk to their child about Our Lady and pray together the Rosary.

The steps to praying the Rosary are:

  1. Make the      Sign of the Cross and say the “Apostles’ Creed”
  2. Say the      “Our Father”
  3. Say three      “Hail Marys” for Faith, Hope, and Charity
  4. Say the      “Glory Be”
  5. Announce      the First Mystery and then say the “Our Father”
  6. Say ten      “Hail Marys” while meditating on the Mystery
  7. Say the      “Glory Be” (Optional: Say the “O My Jesus” prayer requested by      Mary at Fatima)
  8. Announce      the Next Mystery; then say the “Our Father” and repeat these steps (6      through 8) as you continue through the remaining Mysteries.
  9. Say the      closing prayers: the “Hail Holy Queen” and “Final Prayer”
  10. Make the      “Sign of the Cross”

Head lice

A reminder, that parents should regularly check their child for head lice and treat immediately.
