World Book Day

Unfortunately, our World Book Day celebrations didn’t take place as the school was closed due to snow. The event will now take place over the week of 5th March. In school your child will be taking part in a range of book related activities with their teacher.

P1-3 pupils will share stories with local post-primary school pupils and P4-7 classes will take part in a variety of activities around the theme of ‘Share a Story’. Remember to spend the £1 book token which can be used at any book store. And please take a little time during the week to share a story with your child.

Cracking Comprehension

All children from P2-7 have access to Cracking Comprehension, a fantastic on-line resource to develop reading and comprehension skills in a fun and enjoyable way. Please encourage your child to use Cracking Comprehension at home.

Mathletics

It is great to see children so keen to use the Mathletics on-line resource in school and at home. Every child has their log-in details, so they can work on developing their maths skills, competing by completing the tasks, or competing against their classmates and other children from around the world. Already many children have achieved the silver award.

Parents please encourage their child to use this resource at home!

World Maths Day – 7th March

World Maths Day is the world’s largest online maths competition hosted on the Live Mathletics game engine. Mathletics is used by 4 million students worldwide.

By earning points in Live Mathletics! During the official competition, students will have their first 20 games of Live Mathletics recorded by the World Maths Day Hall of Fame. Student scores are also combined to determine a school score for the School Year Group Hall of Fame. Warm Up starts on 21 February so we want our boys and girls to put in lots of practice ahead of the real thing. Let’s see if we can get St Patrick’s to be one of the top schools in the world!!!!

Shared Education

All of our classes are currently learning together with their partner classes in Ballynahinch Primary School on their shared topic. It is great to see the children working together so well, learning new skills and enjoying the opportunity to develop friendships.

Credit Union Quiz

Well done to both of our teams who took part in the Credit Union Quiz, coming runner-up in the 10-11-year-old section and winning the 11-13 section. Our winning team will be representing our school and the Ballynahinch area in the Chapter finals on Sunday, 4th March. Good luck boys and girls!!!

The Little Mermaid

The after-school Drama Club from our school and Ballynahinch Primary School are really enjoying coming together on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and are working hard work to prepare for their performances of “The Little Mermaid” in:

  • Ballynahinch Primary School at 2.00pm

and 7.00pm on Tuesday 13th March.

  • St Patrick’s Primary School at 2.00pm

and 7.00pm on Thursday, 15th March.

On the 15th our own pupils will be invited to stay and watch the 2.00pm matinee performance (free). Tickets for Adults are now on sale (£3 each) and can be purchased from the school.

Multi-cultural Week

As part of our continued work on Inclusion and Diversity a Multicultural week has been organised from Monday 12th – Friday 16th March 2018. A range of activities and workshops will take place to celebrate the Irish culture and the other cultures of our school. Parents are asked to make a £2 donation per child towards to cost of the tutors attending throughout the week.

Further details of the events planned will be circulated.

Parent Meetings

It was great to see such an excellent attendance by parents at our recent Parent Teachers meetings. Thank you for your support and your commitment to your child’s education. Please remember that, should you have any queries or wish to discuss anything, no matter how small, you can contact the school and we will be only too happy to help!

Emotional Intelligence

This month’s Emotional Intelligence focus is on St Patrick and Perseverance. Why not take a little time to talk to your child about what they are learning on the saint and virtue for the month.

The P2/3 class will perform their assembly on the themes on Friday, 16th March at 9.30am. Parents of the P6 class are welcome to come along and join us for refreshments before the assembly at 9.00am.

Cancer Focus

Cancer focus will be visiting our school to provide workshops to all our classes on keeping healthy. Themes throughout he day will include sun safety, dangers of smoking, keeping fit and healthy eating.

Clothing Bank

If you are Spring cleaning perhaps you could donate your unwanted clothing to charity by using our Clothing Bank.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club continues daily at a cost of £1 with breakfast and morning supervision without breakfast at 50p. PLEASE NOTE THAT BREAKFAST CLUB IS NOT OPEN UNTIL 8.10am!

Healthy Kidz

All P5-7 children have now been provided with their unique username and password to access the Healthy Kidz app. If you haven’t already done so, please download the Healthy Kidz app from the app store and encourage your child to log any physical activity they do and healthy foods they eat. So far, only 50% of our children are using the app. So please, make a big effort over the next few weeks to help develop and reinforce a healthy lifestyle for your child.

Missing Reading Books!

As we have noticed that quite a number of our reading books are missing parents are asked to take a little time to look for any books that may be left at home and send them into school. These materials cost thousands of pounds so we need everyone to look after them carefully and make sure they are returned.

Head lice

A reminder, that parents should regularly check their child for head lice and treat immediately!
