St Patrick’s Primary School, Ballynahinch

June 2016

Congratulations to the P7 boys and girls who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on the 13th May. It was a pleasure to see the children approach their preparations with such maturity with their contribution on the day making the ceremony a wonderful celebration. We hope and pray that their faith will continue to develop in the coming years and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

First Communion

Our prayers are with the P4 boys and girls who make their First Communion on Saturday, 4th June at 10.00am in St Patrick’s Church, Ballynahinch. We ask God to be with them as they receive the body and blood of Jesus for the first time.

School and Nursery closed for School Development Day on 6thJune.

Sports Day

Sports Day takes place on Friday 17th June on the Assumption Grammar School 3G pitch from 9.30am to 2.00pm. Instead of a hot meal the school meals kitchen will be providing a packed lunch which can be eaten on the sports field.

A lot of effort is put into organising the various events. Therefore, parents are asked to show their support to the staff by ensuring that their child stays with their class during events and does not leave to sit along with mum or dad.

The school day will finish at 2.00pm and parents are asked to collect their child from Assumption Grammar School playing fields.

Please refrain from smoking on the grounds of Assumption Grammar School and show respect for the facilities that we have been allowed to use.

Good Luck Adam!

Congratulations to Adam Mahon, P7 who has been selected to play in the Cumann na mBunscoil Primary Schools match which takes place at half-time in the Down v Monaghan Ulster Football Championship in Clones. If you are at the game give Adam your support! Good luck Adam!

Class Changeover Day

To facilitate this, the P7 children will finish at 1.00pm. Arrangements for next years’ classes are currently being made and parents will be informed as soon as they are finalised.

Emotional Intelligence

This month the children will focus on the theme of Thankfulness. Why not take a little time to talk to your child about what they are learning in school.

Miss Killen’s P1 class will perform their class assembly on Friday, 24th June 2015 at 9.30am. Parents are very welcome to attend.

Technology Week

Our Technology Week will take place over the week beginning 6th June. Children will be encouraged to work together to plan, design and construct a technology challenge. We look forward to seeing the fantastic work that is produced.

Safety in the Sun

As we approach the final month of the school year and look forward to enjoying some good weather parents are reminded of the importance of making sure children are safe in the sun. Apply sun creams before children come to school and provide a hat to keep the sun of your child’s face.

Labelling of Clothing

It would be much appreciated if parents could check their child’s clothing to ensure that they are clearly labelled. During the warm summer days children take off jumpers especially and labelling is a big help in finding the rightful owners of the clothing.

School Uniforms

Our school uniform will continue to be supplied by Rhoda Stewart for the new school year. They can also be bought from Tesco online. Simply follow the link at the top of our school website.

Drinking Water

As you know, it is important that we keep ourselves hydrated. Encourage your child to bring their water bottle to school. Remember, look after your child’s teeth by not putting in sugary drinks e.g. diluted juice, flavoured water!

Goodbye Mrs Fitzsimons

After 22 years of providing supervision at lunch time for the children of St Patrick’s, Mrs Anne Fitzsimons retired on 27th May. Whilst we are all sad to see her go we hope that she takes many happy memories of her time in school with her and that God will bless her with the health and happiness to enjoy her retirement.

End of Year Trip

This year we have planned our school trip to Carnfunnock Country Park in Larne. The cost of the trip is £5 and children should bring in a packed lunch on the day. Contributions for the trip should be brought in to the class teachers as soon as possible.
