February Rainbow News 2016

   February 2016

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the February edition of Rainbow News. We had a busy month in January with our ‘ice’ theme. We made ice balloons left water overnight in containers for Jack Frost to freeze! We watched it shrink, melt and disappear. We made bird cake and a bird CAFÉ. We found out some birds names and habits. If you wouldlike more information go to www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch.

During the month of February, we begin our ‘Fairy Tales theme.

The story of the month is    Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Rhyme of the month is ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’.

At circle time this month, we are focusing on the theme of ‘Kindness’ as part of our Emotional Intelligence Programme.

We have been talking about kind and unkind hands as part of our rules. We are also finding out about kind and unkind words we say to each other. Talk to your child about how it feels when someone is kind (or unkind) to you and what makes a kind friend.

Parents are encouraged to check on their child’s head regularly for head lice and treat if necessary. We have a leaflet available called ‘Once a week, take a peek’. For more information, a copy of the head lice policy is available on request.

Pick up a BOOK to bring home every Friday.

Songs and Rhymes for February.

Sleeping beauty Song

There was a princess long ago, Long ago, long ago.

There was a princess long ago, long ago.

And she lived in a big high tower etc.

One day a fairy waved her wand etc.

The Princess slept for a hundred years etc.

A great big forest grew around etc.

One day a Prince came riding by etc.

He took his sword and he chopped them down etc.

This made the Princess waken up etc.

So everybody’s happy now etc.

When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears.

When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears, what did her blue eyes see?

A bowl that was huge, a bowl that was small, a bowl that was tiny and that was all,

and she counted them one, two, three.

When Goldilocks………

A chair that was huge, a chair that was small, a chair that was tiny and that was all,

and she counted them one, two, three.

When Goldilocks……..

A bed that was huge, a bed that was small, a bed that was tiny and that was all,

and she counted them one, two, three.

When Goldilocks…..

A bear that was HUGE, a bear that was SMALL, a bear that was TINY and that was all,

And they growled at her GRR,GRR,GRRRR!

Pancake Day

Mummy made pancakes on Tuesday.

She tossed them in the air;

One fell on the table, one fell on the chair.

One fell on the cooker, one fell on the grate;

But lucky for me, I had three-Because they fell on my plate.

Rice and Tuna, Rice and Tuna.

(to the tune of Frere Jacques)

Beans on toast, beans on toast.

Pizza and spaghetti ,Pizza and spaghetti,

Pancake roll, pancake roll.

If you should meet a GIANT,

Don’t say ‘You’re very tall!’

Or he might take you in his hand…………..

And say ‘You’re very SMALL’!

Once I saw a little bird go hop, hop ,hop.

And I said little bird won’t you stop, stop, stop

I went over to the window to say ‘How do you do?’

But he shook his little tail and away he flew.

Hey Diddle Diddle

Hey Diddle, diddle, the cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon.

The little dog laughed to see such fun,

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Happy February Birthday to Blake, Grace, Alice, Amiee, Aaron and Erin.
