November 2015

MAGHERADROLL NURSERY UNIT

Dear Parents,

The children enjoyed the Farm theme in October and created lots of pictures. They had fun singing the songs about the farm. In their creative theme, they made scary bats, and paper plate pumpkins to take home. Everyone looked amazing in their Halloween outfits at the sharing party. The children made chocolate apples on sticks with extra sprinkles. We completed our SPONSORED walk.Thank you so much for your generosity. The final total  has reached an amazing £1,042!!

Here are some of the things your child will be involved in during the month of November.

The Theme of the month is ‘People who help us’.

We will be focusing on the Emergency Services and the important job that they do.

We are introducing a Road Safety element into outdoor play.

A local patrol man will be coming to talk to the children about his job and how to keep safe when we are out and about on the footpaths and crossing the road.

There are other special visitors coming to visit and talk about the jobs they do to help us in our everyday lives.

The children will be participating in role play as Police officers, Fire fighters and Paramedics.

The house corner has a night time theme where the children are invited to get ready for bed complete with slippers, dressing gowns, teddies, bedtime stories, pillows and bedding.

The story of the month is ‘Can’t you sleep Little Bear?

The rhyme of the month is ‘Wee Willie Winkie.’

Song of the month is Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star

At circle time we are focusing on the theme of Forgiveness’ as part of our Emotional Intelligence programme.

Talk to your child about how to be a good friend and what to do if someone hurts you. Talk about how we use our hands to help and not to hurt others. We use kind words like ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’. Talk about why it is important to say “sorry”.

We are focusing on our next rule-

We use kind hands, kind feet and kind words.

The children were involved in their first FUNDRAISER on the 23rdOctober. We went for a walk to the top of the hill behind the Nursery andsaw all of Ballynahinch! We are overwhelmed by your generosity and we will be starting the 'upgrade' in the quiet room to make it a place of calm and a SENSORY experience for the children.

The children went on their first visit to the Library this month. They met Pamela and Diane who read stories and sang songs. The children were so well behaved that they are invited back for Christmas!

Songs and Rhymes for November

Late at Night (to the tune of Frere Jacques)

Late at night, late at night,

Whoo, whoo, whoo; whoo, whoo, whoo.

I can hear the owls call, way up in the tree tall,

Whoo, whoo, whoo; whoo, whoo, whoo.

Wee Willie Winkie.

Wee Willie Winkie, runs through the town.

Upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown.

Rapping at the windows, peeping through the locks;

Are all the children in their bed?

                                 It’s past eight o’clock.

Twinkle, Twinkle little star

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.

Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.

When the blazing sun is gone, when he nothing shines upon;

When you show your little light, twinkle, twinkle through the night.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.

I see the moon

I see the moon, the moon sees me,

God bless the moon and God bless me.

Ten in the bed

There were ten in the bed and the little one said,

’Roll over’, roll over;

So they all rolled over and one fell out....there were nine in the bed .................etc

Hush, little baby (a song to sing you to sleep)

Hush little baby, don’t say a word. Mama’s gonna buy you a mockin’ bird. ( or Papa)

If that mockin’ bird don’t sing, Mamma’s gonna buy you a diamond ring.

If that diamond ring turns brass, Mamma’s gonna buy you a looking glass.

If that looking glass gets broke, Mamma’s gonna buy you a billy goat.

And if that billy goat won’t pull, Mama’s gonna buy you a cart and bull.

And if that cart and bull fall down, you’ll be the sweetest little baby in town.

Five little firemen standing in a row,
1 2 3 4 5 lets go.
Jump on the engine with a SHOUT,
As quick as a wink the fire is out.

Four little firemen standing in a row,
1 2 3 4 woosh lets go.
Jump on the engine with a Shout
As quick as a wink the fire is out.

Three little firemen standing in a row,
1 2 3 woosh woosh lets go.
Jump on the engine with a Shout
As quick as a wink the fire is out.

Two little firemen standing in a row,
1 2 woosh woosh woosh lets go.
Jump on the engine with a Shout
As quick as a wink the fire is out.

One little firemen standing in a row,
1 woosh woosh woosh woosh lets go.
Jump on the engine with a Shout
As quick as a wink the fire is out.

Miss Polly had a dolly

Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick.

So she phoned for the doctor to be quick, quick, quick.

The doctor came with his bag and his hat.

He knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat!

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head;

And he said ‘Miss Polly put her straight to bed.

He wrote on a paper for a pill, pill, pill.

‘I’ll be back in the morning-yes I will, will, will.
