May 2011

Congratulations to the P7 boys and girls who made their Confirmation.  The whole school is very proud of them as they conducted themselves with great reverence and dignity throughout the ceremony.  It was very clear that they were fully committed to receiving the sacrament.  Thanks are extended to Mrs O’Connor and Mrs Holland for all of the work they put into preparing the children.

Congratulations also to the boys and girls who were part of the choir.  Their beautiful singing really added to the occasion.  Our thanks also go to Miss Delaney and Mrs O’Hare for preparing the choir.

Once again the children of St Patrick’s have pulled out all the stops to raise an incredible sum of £1244.30.  Well done to the children, who put in so much hard work to raise this amount and sincere thanks to parents and the wider community for their support.

Annual Golf Outing

St. Patrick's Primary School Parents Support Group Annual Golf Outing took place on Sunday 1st May. The weather was amazing and the course was in wonderful condition.

A great day was had by all who attended and over £1000 was raised. This will be put to great use for the benefit of all the children at the school.

Super Soccer Day

The sun shone last Friday on our boys and girls soccer teams as they took part in the Grassroots Football Soccer Sevens competition.  There was a lot of skill displayed by both teams along with great sportsmanship.

The boys finished their day unbeaten, drawing all of their games but unfortunately this wasn't enough to qualify them for the finals.

Our girls team didn't lack in effort and there were great displays of skills and determination throughout the competition.

The visit by Liverpool legend Phil Thompson rounded of what was a great day of football.

Well done everyone!!!

Technology Challenge

Ella Miskelly, Shauna Megoran and Caitlin Lavery where chosen to represent our school in the SEELB Technology Challenge which took place in St Mary’s High School, Downpatrick. Their task was to design a tower for Harry Potter that could swivel automatically and allow him to see all around. Only the set materials could be used and a strict time limit was applied.  Our team worked tirelessly and produced a fantastic windmill that met all of the criteria.  There was great delight as our team achieved third place, narrowly missing out for qualification for the regional finals by one point.

Children's Author, Colin Bateman visits St Patrick's

The P5, 6 and 7 children thoroughly enjoyed today's visit form Colin Bateman, the well known author.  It was great to see the interest amongst the children as they learned about the life of an author and shared some of his writing.  The questions that were asked by the children were very challenging and showed how keen they were to learn about how to write stories.

We thank Colin for coming along to our school and for the wonderful way he talked to the children.

Who knows, maybe some day one of these boys and girls may return to St Patrick's as a famous author.
